New Delhi, July 25: The Centre has released the draft of the Prevention of Examination Malpractices Amendment Bill 2026. It is likely to be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Sunday. The bill aims to curb paper leaks and exam irregularities with tougher penalties and faster trials.
The draft raises punishment for cheating and irregularities in public exams to five to 10 years in jail. It also proposes fines of up to Rs 50 lakh. Organised paper leak gangs may face fines of up to Rs 10 crore.
The bill also targets agencies and service providers involved in exam conduct. They may face fines of Rs 5 crore. Such companies can also be blacklisted for eight years. This step comes amid student protests over exam leaks and misconduct.
The draft sets tight timelines for probes and trials. Investigations must finish within two months of case registration. Special fast track courts will hear these cases. The trial must end within three months of the charge sheet. Appeals will be heard by a two judge High Court bench and decided within three months.
