Hyderabad, July 31: The Godavari River reached the second flood warning level at Bhadrachalam on Friday as continuous rainfall in the upper catchment areas sharply increased inflows, prompting authorities to intensify relief and rescue operations in flood affected regions.
According to officials, the water level at Bhadrachalam touched 48 feet at 3:48 p.m., triggering the second flood warning. The river was carrying an estimated 11.44 lakh cusecs of floodwater.
Earlier on Friday, the river crossed the first warning level of 43 feet at 10:14 a.m., following which the district administration placed all departments on high alert.
Officials said heavy inflows from the Indravati and Pranahita rivers, driven by widespread rainfall across Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and the Vidarbha region, continue to raise the Godavari’s water level.
The district administration has advised residents of low lying and riverside villages to remain vigilant and shift to safer locations if flood levels continue to rise.
Revenue, police, fire services, disaster management, Panchayat Raj, health, and electricity departments are jointly monitoring the situation and carrying out round the clock surveillance and relief measures in vulnerable areas.
Officials said 49 villages in the Bhadrachalam division have been affected by the floods. The affected villages include:
- Aswapuram: 6 villages
- Bhadrachalam: 9 villages
- Burgampahad: 8 villages
- Dummugudem: 5 villages
- Charla: 8 villages
- Manuguru: 5 villages
- Pinapaka: 8 villages
Authorities are continuously monitoring the flood situation as inflows into the Godavari are expected to remain high over the coming hours.
