Hyderabad, August 1: Four persons were detained by the Balapur police for allegedly attempting to illegally sell a newborn baby girl to a couple in Shaheennagar. The infant was rescued safely, police said.
According to the police, the baby was born at a government hospital in Malakpet earlier this week.
Investigators said a woman identified as Waheeda allegedly convinced the infant’s parents to sell the child to a couple in Shaheennagar. Police said the alleged deal was negotiated for Rs. 5 lakh.
Acting on a tip off, the Balapur police formed special teams and intercepted Waheeda when she allegedly arrived in Shaheennagar to hand over the infant to the prospective buyers.
Police detained four persons in connection with the case and rescued the newborn safely.
Officials said an investigation is underway to determine the roles of all those involved and to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged attempt to sell the child.
