Mahesh Kumar Goud | Hyderabad, Sept. 28 (Maxim News): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud on Monday alleged that democracy in India was under serious threat due to the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Addressing a media conference, Goud accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of acting in favour of the BJP at the direction of the central government. He alleged that the poll panel had compromised its neutrality and that the conduct of the election authorities had raised questions over the future of voters.
Goud further alleged that elections in the country were being conducted in a manner that allowed manipulation. He also claimed that officials themselves were expressing dissatisfaction over the functioning of the Election Commissioners.

Goud alleged that the ECI’s functioning contributed to the defeats of the RJD in Bihar and the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. He also alleged that Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan was denied a seat that she should have won.
He described the allegations as a serious threat to democracy and accused the Election Commission of irregularities in the electoral process.
The ECI, however, has maintained that its decisions, including those related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), were taken unanimously. The poll panel has also rejected allegations that its processes undermine electoral integrity.
Goud said the Congress would organise protests across the country against what he described as irregularities by the Election Commission. He said the programmes would be held under the leadership of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
The media conference was attended by Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Ponnam Prabhakar, former MP Mohammed Azharuddin, MPs Vivek Venkataswamy, Anil Kumar Yadav and Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy.
Former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Anjan Kumar Yadav, Sarve Satyanarayana, MLAs Danam Nagender, Sri Ganesh and Naveen Yadav, DCC presidents Mote Rohith, Deepak John and Khalid, and Minority Commission chairman Faheem Qureshi were also present.
