Kolkata, August 1: The West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a woman alleged to be linked to a suspected Jaish e Mohammed operative as part of an investigation into an alleged conspiracy targeting senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. Authorities are also probing an alleged honeytrap network linked to the case.
According to investigators, the suspected Jaish e Mohammed operative, identified as Hameem Mandal, was earlier arrested in Purba Bardhaman district. During the investigation, police allegedly uncovered information suggesting a plan targeting Suvendu Adhikari.
The STF subsequently arrested Arpita Sarkar, who is alleged to have been in regular contact with Mandal, from Sahibganj in Jharkhand. Investigators suspect she may have been associated with a honeytrap network allegedly aimed at politicians and other public figures.
Police have seized her mobile phone and other digital devices for forensic examination. Officials are also analysing her call records and financial transactions to identify possible links with other individuals.
According to investigators, the probe is focused on determining the extent of the alleged network and whether its activities extended beyond West Bengal. Officials have indicated that further arrests are possible as the investigation progresses.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed additional evidence regarding the alleged conspiracy, and the investigation remains ongoing.
