No Cases Against Students, We Are Committed To The Promise: Center Explains To Supreme Court

Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug 3 (Maxim News): The Supreme Court on Monday took up the issue of the assurance given by the central government regarding the FIRs registered during the students protests. The central government made it clear to the bench that it is committed to its assurance that the cases registered against the students will not be taken forward. The Supreme Court has ordered the Centre to implement this assurance with utmost responsibility (Supreme Court on Student Protest).

During the hearing, the bench headed by the Chief Justice said that the assurance given by the government to the court should be reflected in action and not just in words. It also directed that unnecessary legal action should not be taken against the students contrary to the assurances given earlier. The Supreme Court has already issued interim orders not to take coercive action against the students (Delhi CJP Protest).

As the controversy over the investigation of FIRs already registered continues, the court has focused on how the government will implement its promise (Student Agitation, Legal Action). The CJP, which is leading the student agitation, is demanding the complete withdrawal of all FIRs as per the promise given by the government. It has warned that it will resume agitations across the country if the promises are not implemented. (Maxim News)
