Muslim Woman Asked To Remove Burqa At Mumbai Jain Food Festival

Mumbai, August 6: A Muslim woman has alleged that organisers of a Jain food festival in Mumbai asked her to remove her burqa or leave the venue after she set up a vegetarian food stall at the event held at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) in Worli on Thursday.

The allegation surfaced after her relative, Mushtaq Ansari, shared a video on social media claiming that organisers instructed his sister and wife to remove their burqas or leave the premises.

The woman said she has participated in several food exhibitions earlier and described the incident as one of her worst experiences.

According to her, she was wearing a hijab while serving customers when an organiser allegedly asked her to remove it.

She claimed the organisers had accepted payment for the stall and had not informed participants beforehand of any dress related restrictions or conditions.

“If there was an issue, why did they accept our registration fee?” she questioned.

The woman also alleged that some people photographed and recorded her and her family without their consent.

She said she respected the religious sentiments of the Jain community and ensured that all food served at her stall was completely vegetarian and eggless.

As of now, the organisers have not publicly responded to the allegations. There has also been no official confirmation from authorities regarding the incident.
