Visakhapatnam, August 22: A BRICS delegation visited the ancient Thotlakonda Buddhist heritage site in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
Visakhapatnam is hosting the BRICS Youth Ministers’ Meeting and Sports Ministers’ Meeting on August 22 and 23.
The meetings are being held under India’s BRICS Chairship for 2026. Ministers and heads of delegation from all 11 member countries are participating.
BRICS Delegation Visits Thotlakonda Ahead Of Meetings
The visiting dignitaries explored the heritage site overlooking the Bay of Bengal. The visit highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s cultural and historical heritage.
A sapling plantation drive was also organised at Thotlakonda as part of the programme.
Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is chairing both ministerial meetings. Minister of State Raksha Khadse is also participating.
The Youth Ministers’ Meeting will focus on youth development and empowerment. Discussions include education, skills, entrepreneurship, well being and sustainable development.
Meanwhile, the Sports Ministers’ Meeting on August 23 will focus on traditional sports, sports technology, manufacturing and innovation.
The programme will also include bilateral meetings, a BRICS Friendship Cycling Event and cultural programmes. The delegates are also scheduled to interact with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
