Telangana Polytechnic | Hyderabad, August 22: Telangana Polytechnic staff have announced non cooperation in duties from Saturday over the merger of polytechnics with Young India Skills University.
The Telangana Polytechnic Joint Action Committee said staff will continue regular academic and institutional duties. However, they will boycott additional duties.
These include question paper setting, moderation and evaluation work. The decision follows what the staff described as inadequate responses from the State government.
Polytechnic Staff Oppose Merger With YISU
TP JAC Chairman M Nagaraju said the government had not provided a written roadmap for the merger.
He said staff had raised concerns during initial meetings with officials. However, they received only oral assurances from the Minister and officials.
The non cooperation will also cover duties linked to the State Board of Technical Education and Training.
The staff are demanding that polytechnics remain under the Education Department and SBTET. They said their protest will continue until the government addresses their concerns.
Staff also questioned the proposed academic structure under YISU. They said the university can frame its own syllabus and fix tuition fees under its public private partnership model.
They further claimed that industry focused courses may limit students’ opportunities across other sectors. They also raised concerns about AICTE approval for diploma programmes.
Meanwhile, polytechnic students continued protests against GO MS No. 97. They are also demanding that the government retain the ECET for lateral entry into engineering courses.
Shakti Minister G Vivek Venkat Swamy met protesting students at Government Polytechnic College, Masab Tank, on Friday.
Students sought an assurance on ECET and the future of polytechnic education. The Minister later said the merger would help provide Rs 600 crore for upgrading polytechnics.
