Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said new sanctions against Iran would be announced on August 24.
Bessent warned that the measures would be tougher than previous sanctions. He also said countries helping Iran could face economic consequences.
Iran has rejected the threats and warned that it would respond to any attack.
Major General Ali Abdullahi said Iranian forces were prepared to respond through land, sea, air and cyber operations.
The dispute has raised concerns over the impact on international shipping and the global economy.
