Hyderabad, August 23: Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 404 cases during a two day special drive against drunk driving on August 21 and 22.
The enforcement drive aimed to improve road safety and deter motorists from driving under the influence of alcohol.
Two wheeler riders accounted for the largest share of violations. Police caught 352 two wheeler riders during the drive.
Meanwhile, officials booked 30 three wheeler drivers and 22 four wheeler and other vehicle drivers.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police recorded different blood alcohol concentration levels among the offenders. The figures showed that 92 cases fell in the 30 to 50 range.
Another 179 cases recorded BAC levels between 51 and 100. In addition, 63 drivers recorded levels between 101 and 150.
Police recorded 39 cases in the 151 to 200 range. They also booked 20 cases involving BAC levels between 201 and 250.
Furthermore, six drivers recorded BAC levels between 251 and 300. Five cases involved BAC levels above 300.
Hyderabad Traffic Police Warn of Zero Tolerance
The Hyderabad Traffic Police said it would follow a zero tolerance policy against drunk driving violations.
Officials also said the special enforcement drive would continue. The department urged motorists to avoid driving after consuming alcohol.
Police stressed that drunk driving can increase the risk of serious crashes. It can also endanger pedestrians, passengers and other road users.
The latest drive forms part of continued enforcement efforts to improve traffic discipline in Hyderabad. Police have been conducting targeted checks at various locations to identify violations.
The department appealed to commuters to cooperate with traffic personnel during enforcement operations. It also urged vehicle users to follow road safety rules.
The Traffic Police said motorists should arrange alternative transport after consuming alcohol. This can help prevent crashes and protect other road users.
The department reiterated that strict action will follow against people who violate drunk driving rules.
