Hyderabad, August 29: Hyderabad City Police have invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against a habitual PDS rice black marketeer.
Police detained Md. Rafiq, 24, on August 29 and sent him to Central Prison, Chanchalguda.
Rafiq, a CCTV technician from Talabkatta, allegedly procured subsidised PDS rice at low prices from various sources.
He allegedly accumulated large stocks and transported the rice to different locations for commercial gain.
Police said his activities caused financial losses to the State Government and Civil Supplies Corporation.
They also said the accused undermined the functioning of the Public Distribution System.
PDS Rice Black Marketing Cases
According to police, Rafiq has been involved in multiple cases related to the illegal trade of PDS rice.
The cases were registered at Bhavani Nagar, Mirchowk and Medak Town police stations.
The cases include offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Essential Commodities Act and TS PDS Control Order.
Police said his repeated activities were prejudicial to the maintenance of public order.
Therefore, the Hyderabad City Commissioner of Police issued the PD order on August 13.
The order was issued under Ref: SB(I) No. 494/CIU 4/PD/HYD/2026.
Bhavani Nagar Police executed the detention order against Rafiq on August 29.
He was subsequently remanded to Central Prison, Chanchalguda, Hyderabad.
