Telangana SIR: Software Glitches Leave Voters Unmapped

Hyderabad: Several Telangana voters who submitted enumeration forms with details from the previous Special Intensive Revision (SIR) are reportedly being marked as “unmapped” due to possible software glitches.

According to a report published by The Hindu, some electors received notices stating that their names could not be mapped with the 2002 electoral rolls despite providing the required details.

The issue has raised concerns among voters ahead of the ongoing electoral roll revision process in Telangana.

Telangana SIR Mapping Issue Affects Over 32 Lakh Voters

Several electors said they had searched the previous electoral rolls and provided their 2002 details while submitting their enumeration forms.

The Hindu quoted an elector, V Swapna, who said her family had successfully located its details in the old voter lists. However, all family members later received notices stating that their names were not mapped with the 2002 SIR.

The reported problem is not limited to the mapping process. In some areas, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are reportedly asking voters to collect notices from community halls instead of delivering them at their homes.

Electoral officials said BLOs in several cases were unable to upload 2002 electoral roll details through the Election Commission of India (ECI) mobile application.

A BLO, speaking anonymously to The Hindu, reportedly said the application rejected entries when there were even minor differences in voters’ names.

According to the available figures, 32,36,659 electors in Telangana have been classified as unmapped. Notices have been issued to these voters with details of the date and time of hearings before the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO).

In Hyderabad alone, 5,80,908 electors are reportedly listed in the unmapped category.

These voters will have to attend the scheduled hearings and submit relevant documents to establish their electoral details.

The reported software issues have added to concerns among voters, particularly those who say they had already completed the required process and provided details from the 2002 electoral rolls.
