KRMB Meeting Fails To Reach Consensus On Water Sharing Among Telugu States

Hyderabad, Sept 4 (Maxim News): The KRMB three-member committee meeting was held today (Friday). Telangana ENC Ramesh Babu said that several key issues were discussed in this meeting. However, he said that a consensus could not be reached on water distribution. He revealed that it has been decided to meet again in the fourth week of September. He said that they discussed drinking water at length.

ENC Ramesh Babu said that they have demanded a 50:50 share due to the impact of El Nino. He said that the Andhra Pradesh government has demanded a 66:34 share distribution. He said that Telangana has opposed AP’s demand. He said that AP is already taking water from Pothireddypadu against the rules. He said that Telangana has asked for a total of 200 TMCs – AP has asked for 100 TMCs. ENC Ramesh Babu said that currently there are 142 TMCs under KRMB.

AP ENC Narasimha Murthy said that the KRMB three-member committee meeting ended unsatisfactorily. He said that the Telangana government is using water for power generation in Nagarjuna Sagar and they have requested that it be stopped immediately. He said that AP has requested that the drinking water share be allocated at 66:34 percent. He requested that 97 TMC be released according to the 66:34 percent share.

AP ENC Narasimha Murthy mentioned that the Telangana government has objected to the 66:34 percent share. He said that AP has requested a drinking water share of 104 TMC, while Telangana has requested 200 TMC. AP ENC Narasimha Murthy stated that water is being used only as per its share from other projects in Pothireddypadu. (Maxim News)
