Internet, Sept. 13: A ferry carrying 240 people went missing off the coast of Indonesia on Saturday, triggering a search and rescue operation.
The ferry was travelling from Surabaya in East Java to Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan on Borneo.
According to reports, the vessel lost contact about 148 kilometres off the coast of Java.
The ship operator alerted authorities after contact with the ferry was lost.

Rescue teams launched a search operation after receiving information from the operator.
Officials suspect poor weather conditions may have contributed to the loss of contact.
However, authorities have not confirmed whether the ferry sank or remains afloat.
There is also no official information yet on the safety or whereabouts of the 240 people on board.
Rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate the vessel and determine the condition of those aboard.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over passenger vessel safety in Indonesia, which has experienced several maritime accidents in recent times.
