Hyderabad, Sept. 13: Chinese President Xi Jinping said India and China are partners rather than rivals during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
Xi made the remarks during bilateral talks on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, according to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He said both countries should view each other as opportunities rather than threats to development.
India China Ties Focus on Cooperation and Development
The Chinese ministry said Modi and Xi have met twice over the past two years.
It said their meetings helped move India China ties from a restart towards further improvement.
Institutional exchanges between the two countries have gradually resumed, the ministry said.
It also said the scope of bilateral cooperation has continued to expand.
According to the statement, bilateral trade has reached a new high.
Xi said India and China have different national conditions but can learn from each other.
He said both countries can support each other and pursue common development.
Xi also highlighted the responsibilities of India and China as major Global South countries.
He called for cooperation to promote BRICS development and contribute to global peace and stability.
The Chinese president outlined four points for the steady and long term development of bilateral relations.
The first called for an objective and rational strategic understanding of the relationship.
Xi said India and China should see each other as partners and development opportunities.
He said this approach reflects the development needs of both countries and their shared interests.
The meeting comes amid efforts by both sides to improve relations after tensions along their border.
