Hyderabad, Sept. 15: A 24-carat gold-plated Lord Ganesha idol decorated with 3,83,800 American diamonds has become a major attraction at Begum Bazar in Hyderabad during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
The idol has been installed at Lichi Pearl Set Jewels as part of the jewellery store’s third year of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Organiser Adhar Agarwal said the idol was specially commissioned for this year’s festival.
Speaking to media, Agarwal said the idol was created with a jewellery-inspired design. He said the idol is made of brass and incorporates five different metals.
The rear arch features elements representing the Dasavataram, while Balaji is placed at the top, with Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Lakshmi on either side.
3.8 lakh diamonds hand-fitted into Ganesha idol
According to Agarwal, the idol is completely studded with 3,83,800 American diamonds, the same type of material used in the store’s fashion jewellery.
He said the team wanted to give the idol a distinctive jewellery touch by using the same raw materials used for their jewellery products.
The idol was intricately crafted, with every stone hand-fitted. Eight workers reportedly worked day and night for eight months to complete the project.
Agarwal said the work involved separate teams for card designing, casting, stone setting and polishing. The base design of the idol was inspired by Lalbaghcha Raja.
He also highlighted the emotional connection the team has with Ganesh Chaturthi in Hyderabad’s Old City. According to Agarwal, the festival has held a special place in their lives since childhood.
The unique idol has drawn visitors to the Begum Bazar jewellery store as the city celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi.
