Hyderabad: The makers of the highly anticipated period action drama Ranabaali, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, have announced that the background music (BGM) for the film’s first half has been completed.
Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on October 16, 2026, during the Dussehra festive season. The makers said post-production work is progressing smoothly and the film is expected to be completed well ahead of its theatrical release.
The official film handle said the BGM work for the first half had been completed and that the team was on track for the planned release.
Rashmika Plays Jayamma in Ranabaali
A few days ago, director Rahul Sankrityan revealed that he named Rashmika Mandanna’s character Jayamma after his mother.
The filmmaker said the character was written with a personal connection and that he wanted Jayamma to represent a woman who could inspire women today, despite belonging to another era.
Sankrityan also praised Rashmika for bringing the character to life and described Jayamma as the love in Ranabaali’s heart and the spirit in his soul.
In the film, Vijay Deverakonda plays Ranabaali, while Rashmika portrays his wife, Jayamma. Hollywood actor Arnold Vosloo, known for The Mummy, plays the antagonist Sir Theodore Hector.
Produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar, with T-Series presenting the film, Ranabaali is set against a British-era backdrop and is being mounted as a major pan-India period action drama.
The film is set in the 19th century and is said to draw from historical events between 1854 and 1878. According to sources, the story is inspired by real incidents that allegedly received little attention in mainstream historical accounts.
The makers have maintained that Ranabaali is not a biopic or a textbook retelling, but a cinematic reconstruction of an era based on multiple historical accounts, oral histories and records.
Ranabaali marks the third collaboration between Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna as an on-screen pair after Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade.
