New Delhi, Sept. 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi on Thursday, highlighting India’s growing semiconductor ecosystem.
The fifth edition of the three day event is being held at Yashobhoomi from September 17 to 19.
The event is being organised around the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”.
Modi said India’s semiconductor ecosystem is expanding rapidly and creating opportunities for innovation, investment and growth.
He also urged industry leaders to increase research and development in India. He called on young researchers to contribute to the development of advanced technologies.
SEMICON India 2026 Showcases Semiconductor Value Chain
The conference brings together semiconductor companies, policymakers, investors, researchers, startups, academic institutions and students.
More than 600 exhibitors and companies are participating, with representatives from more than 40 countries. The event showcases technologies across the semiconductor and electronics value chain.
The exhibition covers areas including chip design, manufacturing, advanced packaging, electronics and related systems.
A special “Sand to Silicon to Systems” experience is also showcasing the semiconductor value chain to visitors.
Country pavilions from Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore and Sweden are part of the event. State pavilions, a startup pavilion, innovation showcases and a student hackathon are also being featured.
During the inauguration, commercial production was also highlighted at semiconductor packaging facilities in Punjab and Gujarat.
The event is aimed at promoting investment, technology partnerships, innovation and talent development across India’s semiconductor industry.
The official SEMICON India platform said the 2026 edition is focused on strengthening India’s participation across the global microelectronics value chain.
Modi also referred to developments in India’s wider technology and infrastructure sectors during his address.
He said India is preparing to become a trusted destination for semiconductor manufacturing as global demand for resilient supply chains grows.
