Hyderabad, Sept. 18: The Central government has changed passport validity rules for minors and revised several passport application fees.
The revised fees came into effect from July 1, 2026.
Under the new rules, passports issued to children below 15 years will remain valid for five years or until they turn 18, whichever comes earlier.
However, minors aged 15 to 18 can apply for a passport with full 10 year validity.
Passport Fees Revised for Adults and Minors
Adults above 18 years will pay Rs 2,500 for a regular 36 page passport.
The fee for a regular 60 page passport has been fixed at Rs 3,500.
Under the Tatkal scheme, the fees will be Rs 5,000 for 36 pages and Rs 6,000 for 60 pages.
For children below 18 years, a regular 36 page passport will cost Rs 1,750.
The Tatkal fee for the same passport will be Rs 4,250.
Minors aged 15 to 18 who seek a passport with 10 year validity will pay the applicable adult fee.
The government has revised regular passport fees for the first time since 2012, according to the report.
Meanwhile, the 10 percent discount for new passport applications will continue for children below eight years and senior citizens above 60.
The discount, however, will not apply to passport renewal applications.
Fees Increased for Lost or Damaged Passports
The fee for obtaining a replacement passport after loss or damage has also been revised.
Applicants will have to pay Rs 5,000 for a 36 page passport and Rs 6,000 for a 60 page passport.
Passport related services such as Police Clearance Certificates and Surrender Certificates will cost Rs 750.
Applicants have been advised to check the latest fee structure and rules on the official Passport Seva portal before submitting applications.
