Hyderabad, Sept. 19: Senior BRS leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail on Saturday accused the Congress government and AIMIM of failing to adequately address minority welfare issues in Telangana.
Sohail alleged that the state government had spent only Rs 1,972.17 crore against Rs 5,100.97 crore allocated for minority welfare schemes over two financial years.
The amount represents around 38.7% of the allocation, according to figures cited by Sohail. Similar figures were reported following his statement on Saturday.
He said Rs 1,010.63 crore was spent against an allocation of Rs 2,844.02 crore during 2025-26.
Sohail said the expenditure amounted to around 35.5% of the allocation. He added that the figures covered the scheme budget and excluded salaries and establishment expenditure.
He alleged that unspent allocations affected the implementation of welfare programmes for minority communities.
Sohail also questioned why minority welfare allocations were not linked to the community’s population share in Telangana.

Sohail also raised concerns over pending scholarships and fee reimbursement payments.
The Telangana government recently agreed to hold an all-party meeting on fee reimbursement and scholarship issues after concerns were raised in the Assembly.
AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi had sought discussions on pending dues, scholarships and eligibility norms. Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu subsequently said the government would convene the meeting.
Sohail alleged that minority students were among those affected by delayed payments.
He also criticised AIMIM, claiming the party had not mounted sustained political pressure on the government over minority welfare spending.
However, AIMIM legislators raised issues involving fee reimbursement and scholarships during the recent Assembly session.
Sohail said raising questions in the Legislature should be accompanied by continued efforts to ensure implementation of welfare schemes.
He also raised concerns over the protection of Waqf properties and called for action on surveys, encroachments and reconciliation of land records.
Sohail demanded that the government release scheme-wise information on minority welfare allocations, fund releases, expenditure, beneficiaries and pending applications.
He said future budget allocations should be judged by how much money is actually released and spent on the intended schemes.
Sohail maintained that the government should ensure timely scholarships, implementation of welfare programmes and protection of Waqf properties.
