Hyderabad, Sept. 28 (Maxim News): The Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department has invited applications for 41 new 2B bar licences across the state.
The notification covers 14 bars in the Core Urban Region (CURE) and 27 in other municipal corporations and municipalities.
Applicants must submit their forms on government working days between 10 am and 5 pm.The department has fixed a non-refundable application fee of Rs 1 lakh for each application.
If multiple applications are received for a location, allotment will be decided through a lottery at 11 am on October 16.
A selected applicant who withdraws, refuses to take the licence or violates the prescribed terms will have to pay a penalty of Rs 5 lakh to the government.
41 New Bars Could Add Rs 14.62 Crore
The annual Bar Excise Tax (BET) varies according to the location.
Bars in the CURE, covering Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri, will attract an annual BET of Rs 44 lakh.
Certain specified locations will have a BET of Rs 42 lakh, while the remaining locations will attract Rs 30 lakh annually.
Based on these slabs, officials estimate that the 41 new licences could generate about Rs 14.62 crore in additional annual revenue.
The notification includes several locations where bars are being introduced for the first time.
They include Devarakadra, Ellampalli, Maddur and Gummadidala.
Other locations covered by the notification include Muduchintalapally, Yellampet, Aswaraopeta, Kalluru, Makthal, Gaddapotaram, Kohir, Bodhan, Bichkunda, Chevella, Moinabad, Kodangal, Parigi, Narsampet, Station Ghanpur, Kesamudram and Mulugu.
For the 14 CURE licences, applications can be submitted at the Excise Commissioner’s office in Abkari Bhavan and the respective Deputy Commissioner’s offices.
Applications for bars in other districts can be submitted at designated Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and District Prohibition and Excise Officer offices.
Telangana currently has around 1,185 bars, including about 657 in Hyderabad, according to excise officials. (Maxim News)
