Coimbatore/Internet/Hyderabad, Oct 4 (Maxim News): A 31-year-old sailor of the Indian Navy has been arrested by the police on charges of passing highly sensitive and classified information of the Indian defense sector to a Pakistani agent. The arrest took place in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The arrested sailor has been identified by the authorities as Pradeep Mukherjee.
Pradeep Mukherjee, a native of West Bengal, joined the Indian Navy in 2014. He is serving in the Eastern Naval Command, based in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
Pradeep Mukherjee, who had arrived at the INS Agrani Naval Leadership Training Center in Coimbatore to participate in a management course, was detained by the counter intelligence team on Saturday.
Pradeep Mukherjee was introduced to a Pakistani female agent (ISI) through social media. Pradeep, who fell into the ‘honeytrap’ with that introduction, has been in constant contact with her for the past few months.
Leaked information: It has been revealed that highly classified data related to the fleet movements, strategic assets and operational procedures of key warships at the Visakhapatnam naval base was provided to a Pakistani agent.
The Counter Intelligence (CI) cell of the Andhra Pradesh Police monitored the digital activities of the sailor and collected evidence through digital footprints that he was passing secrets.
Another arrest was made in Kochi a few months ago.
This is not the first time that Navy officials have been caught in the Pakistan ISI honeytrap. A few months ago (in March 2026), a sailor named Lance Naik Adarsh Kumar (Lucky), posted at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, Kerala, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh ATS. Investigation revealed that he too had passed on pictures of warships and sensitive naval information to Pakistani ISI agents in the hope of cash.
Indian security forces have intensified surveillance against digital espionage and ‘honeytraps’ being carried out by the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI targeting Indian defense systems and border security. (Maxim News)
