Hyderabad Water Supply: Board Denies Viral Shutdown Claim

Hyderabad Water Supply | Hyderabad, Oct 13: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has denied a viral message claiming the city’s reservoirs will dry up by November-end.

The message also warns of restricted or suspended drinking water supplies because of El Niño and an anticipated drought.

The Water Board clarified that it did not issue the message circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. It said the claims about reservoir levels and a possible shutdown were not part of any official announcement.

The board urged residents not to believe or forward unverified messages. It advised people to rely on official communications for updates about reservoir storage and drinking water distribution.

The HMWSSB said residents should obtain information about water supply and conservation through its official communication channels. It also appealed to consumers to use drinking water responsibly and avoid unnecessary wastage.

The clarification comes amid wider concerns about declining reservoir levels following deficient monsoon rainfall and the possible effects of El Niño.

Recent reports have highlighted pressure on some of Hyderabad’s drinking water sources. However, these concerns do not establish the viral message’s claim of a November-end citywide shutdown.

Residents should therefore distinguish between the unverified shutdown message and official updates about water availability. The board has asked the public to avoid spreading panic through unconfirmed claims.
