Telangana CM On Mudiraj BCA Status, Sayanna Statues

Hyderabad, Oct 22 (Maxim News):  Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced that a Cabinet subcommittee will conduct a comprehensive study on the proposal to include the Mudiraj community in the Backward Classes (BC-A) category.

He also assured that steps would be taken to install statues of social reformers and warrior figures Panduga Sayanna and Doddi Komuraiah in the Tank Bund area of Hyderabad.

The Chief Minister made the announcements while participating in the state government’s official programme marking the 174th birth anniversary of Panduga Sayanna Mudiraj at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad. He paid floral tributes to Sayanna’s portrait and released songs composed in his honour.

Cabinet Subcommittee to Examine BC-A Inclusion

Revanth Reddy recalled that earlier proposals to shift the Mudiraj community from BC-D to another category had faced rejection by courts because of inadequate data.

He said the state government would now examine the proposal using the findings of its caste survey to minimise the risk of legal challenges. The Cabinet subcommittee will consult legal experts and officials before placing the matter before the state Cabinet for discussion and a decision.

The Chief Minister also acknowledged concerns that moving the Mudiraj community into BC-A could affect the interests of the Gangaputra community. He asked Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to engage with the concerned communities, explain the details and address their apprehensions.

Revanth Reddy said the government’s caste survey had provided a stronger data base for decisions concerning social justice. He urged people to report any omissions or inaccuracies in the survey so that the relevant details could be reviewed and corrected.

Caste Survey to Guide Social Justice Measures

The Chief Minister said Telangana had completed its caste survey after establishing a commission on February 4, 2024, and completing the exercise by February 4, 2025. According to him, the data would help strengthen demands for equitable opportunities in education, employment and livelihood.

Statues of Panduga Sayanna and Doddi Komuraiah

Paying tribute to Panduga Sayanna, Revanth Reddy described him as a courageous figure who fought for poor and disadvantaged people against landlords, jagirdars and powerful landowners. He said Sayanna’s legacy continued to be remembered through folk traditions in villages.

The Chief Minister said the history of leaders who fought for marginalised communities deserved wider recognition. Following the installation of statues of figures such as Sarvai Papanna Goud and Jyotirao Phule, the government would take steps to install statues of Panduga Sayanna and Doddi Komuraiah in the Tank Bund area.

Telangana CM Highlights Welfare Schemes

Revanth Reddy also outlined the government’s welfare initiatives, saying existing schemes had not been discontinued but were expanded or improved.

He cited the distribution of six kilograms of fine rice per person to 3.48 crore beneficiaries, free domestic electricity for eligible households consuming up to 200 units a month, and an increase in the Aarogyasri health coverage limit from ₹2 lakh to ₹10 lakh.

He also referred to the increase in Rythu Bharosa assistance from ₹10,000 to ₹12,000, crop loan waivers of up to ₹2 lakh for more than 25 lakh farmers, the sanction of eight lakh Indiramma houses and free bus travel for women on state-run RTC services. He said the government had spent more than ₹14,000 crore on the free bus travel scheme.

The programme was attended by Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Vakiti Srihari, Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Dr Banda Prakash, MPs Anil Kumar Yadav and Eatala Rajender, adviser V. Hanumantha Rao and other public representatives. (Maxim News)
