HMWSSB to Launch Green Water Tanker Services on November 1

Hyderabad, Oct 24 (Maxim News): The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) will launch Green Water tanker services on November 1. The initiative aims to conserve drinking water and reduce dependence on groundwater.

The board will supply treated sewage water from sewage treatment plants (STPs) for construction, industrial operations, parks and landscaping. It will also support road cleaning and dust suppression.

HMWSSB Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy has directed officials to complete all technical and operational arrangements before the launch. The board is preparing filling stations and digital booking facilities to streamline the service.

Green Water Tankers to Have GPS Tracking and Online Booking

Officials will assess demand across construction sites, industries, commercial complexes, government institutions and gated communities. Based on local requirements, suitable government and private STPs will be developed as Green Water filling stations.

The filling stations will have the necessary infrastructure, including platforms, pumping facilities and flow meters. Customers will be able to obtain treated water through registered tankers or use their own tankers under prescribed rules.

All Green Water tankers must carry distinctive branding and GPS equipment. These measures will help officials monitor tanker movements, delivery schedules and supply details.

Electronic point-of-sale (e-POS) machines will record water quantities, bookings and supplies at filling stations. A dedicated mobile application will support customer registration, online booking, tanker allocation, GPS tracking and digital payments. It will also provide delivery confirmation.

The board will regularly test treated water to ensure compliance with prescribed quality standards. The water will be supplied strictly for non-drinking purposes.

HMWSSB is also coordinating with builders, developers and industrial associations to encourage the use of treated water. The initiative aims to replace drinking water and groundwater wherever treated water is suitable.

The move is part of the city’s broader water conservation efforts ahead of the next summer. Officials expect greater reuse of treated wastewater to ease pressure on drinking water sources.
