PM Modi Praises Uttarakhand Villagers for Reviving Heval River

Delhi/Hyderabad, Oct 25 (Maxim News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised villagers in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal district for reviving the Heval River through community-led conservation efforts. He also urged people across India to maintain cleanliness and protect natural water sources.

Speaking during the 139th episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, Modi said preserving nature and keeping surroundings clean were deeply rooted in Indian traditions. He welcomed growing public participation in environmental protection.

The Prime Minister said the Heval River’s water levels had declined several years ago. Natural water sources in the surrounding areas had also begun drying up, prompting villagers and the local administration to launch a conservation campaign.

Heval River Revival Highlights Community Conservation

Modi said the initiative focused on rainwater conservation, groundwater recharge and large-scale tree plantation. These measures helped revive the river and restore dozens of natural water sources in the region.

He highlighted the initiative as an example of how communities can achieve meaningful environmental change through collective responsibility. The campaign also demonstrated the importance of protecting local ecosystems and conserving water for future generations.

The Prime Minister also connected community participation in environmental conservation with the spirit of unity seen during India’s festivals.

With Diwali and Chhath approaching, Modi urged people to organise cleanliness drives and keep their homes and surroundings clean. He said even small individual efforts could create significant improvements in the local environment.

He emphasised that protecting water sources and maintaining cleanliness should remain everyday responsibilities rather than activities limited to special occasions.

The 139th episode also marked 12 years of Mann Ki Baat, which began on Vijayadashami in 2014. Modi described the programme as an opportunity to recognise the contributions of ordinary citizens and share inspiring initiatives from across the country.
