IIIT Hyderabad MSIT Programme | Hyderabad, Oct. 26: The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT Hyderabad) has opened applications for the January 2027 cohort of its revamped Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) programme. The four-semester residential programme combines computing fundamentals, applied artificial intelligence (AI), research experience and entrepreneurship.
The programme has been developed by the Consortium of Institutions of Higher Learning (CIHL) in collaboration with IIIT Hyderabad’s Centre for Educational Technology and Learning Sciences (CETLS). The degree will be awarded by IIIT Hyderabad.
IIIT Hyderabad Director Prof. Sandeep Shukla said the programme focuses on practical learning, enabling students to apply their knowledge, work on research problems and develop technology-based ventures.

The full-time programme is structured across four semesters, taking students from foundational computing skills to research, venture development and industry experience.
The first semester focuses on computing fundamentals through courses in Learning to Learn with AI Tools, Algorithms and Data Structures, and Computer Systems.

During the second semester, students work with faculty members and mentors at IIIT Hyderabad’s research centres to develop and deploy applied AI systems. They also undertake project-based AI coursework.
The third semester focuses on entrepreneurship. Students form teams, develop working products and prepare business plans to address real-world problems. They also pitch their ventures to early-stage venture capitalists for potential seed funding.
In the fourth semester, students whose ventures secure funding work towards launching their startups. Other students undertake a full-time industry co-op, gaining experience in developing production systems with an industry partner.
The programme aims to combine academic learning with practical implementation, giving students opportunities to work on real-world challenges and develop technology-based solutions.
Eligibility and Admission Schedule
The MSIT programme is open to graduates with 16 years of formal education who are prepared to study computer science, AI and mathematics. Final-year students awaiting their degree results are also eligible to apply.
The admission process includes online registration, an aptitude assessment through GRE, GATE or the MSIT Entrance Examination, as applicable, and interviews for shortlisted candidates.
Admissions will take place in two cycles:
- Cycle I: Application deadline is November 7, 2026, and the examination will be held on November 11, 2026.
- Cycle II: Application deadline is December 7, 2026, and the examination will be held on December 11, 2026.
The final admission list is scheduled to be announced on December 20, 2026. Classes are scheduled to begin on January 2, 2027.
The programme will be conducted on the IIIT Hyderabad campus as a residential course. The tuition fee is Rs. 1.5 lakh per semester.
