Owaisi Abdul Pitch in UP | Hyderabad, Oct 26 (Maxim News): AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s aggressive campaign in Uttar Pradesh targeting Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has put the SP on the defensive, with the principal opposition party in the state accusing Owaisi of acting as a BJP proxy.

Owaisi has been touring UP and repeatedly raising the “Abdul” question — arguing that Muslims must win seats in their own right rather than depend on parties led by the Nehru-Gandhi or Yadav families.
During his whirlwind UP tour, Owaisi has alleged that Akhilesh Yadav and his family have denied Muslims adequate political representation in constituencies where they form a significant part of the electorate. At his October 25 rally, he suggested the SP should rename itself “Samajwadi Yadav Parivar.”
He also criticised Akhilesh Yadav over the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots and accused the SP of failing Muslims in terms of political representation.

The SP has pushed back, describing AIMIM as the “B team” of the BJP — a charge Owaisi’s party has consistently denied. The SP believes Owaisi’s attacks on the party are designed to split the Muslim vote and benefit the BJP in UP, where Muslims constitute a significant portion of the electorate and are considered a key factor in several constituencies.

Owaisi’s central message, framed around the colloquial term “Abdul” for a Muslim voter, is that Muslim communities have long been taken for granted by mainstream parties without receiving proportional political power in return. He has argued that Muslims should contest and win seats independently rather than remain vote banks for larger parties.
