Hyderabad: Imran Mirza, father of tennis star Sania Mirza, has denied social media reports claiming that the six-time Grand Slam champion donated land for the construction of a mosque. He described the circulating reports as fake and distorted and issued a clarification to address the claims.
Imran said a photograph of Sania Mirza with former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin, which had gone viral alongside the claims, was AI-generated.
He clarified that no mosque was being constructed on the land where the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy has been established.
Sania Mirza Mosque Land Donation Reports Called Fake
In his statement, Imran Mirza said Sania had the right to use land purchased by her or her family in any manner she considered appropriate. However, he firmly denied the specific claim that a mosque was being built on the academy’s premises.
He also stressed that Sania’s charitable and philanthropic activities were personal matters. According to Imran, any social work she has undertaken in the past or may undertake in the future should remain private unless she chooses to share the details herself.
He objected to the circulation of unverified claims about her charitable activities, particularly when Sania had not personally confirmed them.
The clarification comes after the claims and the purported photograph circulated on social media over the past several days. Imran urged people to recognise the misleading nature of the reports rather than share unverified information.
