Hyderabad Rice Prices | Hyderabad, Nov. 3: Rising rice prices in Hyderabad are putting an increasing financial burden on common households, particularly poor and middle-class families. The price of a quintal of fine rice has reportedly climbed to between Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 10,000 in the open market, nearly double the earlier rates.
Previously, a quintal of fine rice was priced between Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 6,000. The latest increase has raised concerns among consumers, who are already struggling with higher prices of vegetables, cooking oil, pulses and other essential commodities.
Although the rice harvest is yet to be completed across Telangana, crops from some areas have started reaching the market. Traders are reportedly citing the possible impact of El Niño and reduced crop yields to justify the price increases.
Hyderabad Rice Prices Raise Concerns Over Market Control
Consumers have accused some traders of creating artificial shortages and increasing prices despite demand remaining largely unchanged. They have also questioned the effectiveness of Civil Supplies officials in controlling the rising rates.
Officials have reportedly begun inspections and surprise checks at rice trading establishments. However, consumers allege that the inspections have focused mainly on checking stock details, without sufficient action against traders charging higher prices.

Residents are demanding stronger monitoring of rice stocks and market prices. They have urged authorities to investigate allegations of artificial shortages and take action against traders found violating regulations.
The rising cost of rice is particularly affecting daily wage workers and low-income families. With a quintal costing as much as Rs. 10,000, households are finding it increasingly difficult to manage their monthly food expenses.
Wage earners are reportedly spending a significant portion of their income on rice alone. The increase has added to the pressure caused by higher prices of vegetables, cooking oil, pulses and other essential goods.
Consumers are also worried that rice prices could rise further if crop yields decline. They have urged the government to strengthen field-level inspections, prevent artificial shortages and take steps to make essential food commodities affordable.
