Rising hypertension cases causing concern: Harish

Hyderabad, May 17 (Maxim News): Health Minister T Harish Rao today expressed concern over the increasing number of hypertension cases in Telangana and stressed the importance of educating the people on the subject.

Speaking at a program here organised by the Global Hospitals to mark the World Hypertension Day on Tuesday, the Health Minister said the cases of hypertension, which is also commonly known as high blood pressure, are gradually increasing in the State after the prevalence of Corona pandemic and it is quite a cause of concern over the development. Stating that the State Health department has initiated in screening of non-communicable diseases aimed at early detection of the Hypertension cases, Harish Rao said efforts are being made to complete the hundred percent screening process across the Telangana in the next three months.

Harish Rao cited that the people are suddenly demised due to high blood pressure and majority of them belonged to below 30 years. Sedentary lifestyle and addiction to the smart phones and unhealthy food habits are mainly attributed to rise in the blood pressure cases among the people, he added. “Telangana is only third State in the country conducting the screening of non-communicable diseases. So far, the department has screened over 90 lakh people in which over 14 lakh are identified as hypertension victims. The department is aimed at completing hundred percent screening process in next three months,” he added. (Maxim News)
