KCR announces 10 percent reservations to Tribals in Telangana

Hyderabad, Sept.17 (NSS): Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has announced a 10 percent reservation to the tribal people in Telangana.

Addressing the Telangana Adivasi-Banjarala Atmiya Sabha at NTR Stadium here on Saturday, the Chief Minister said the State government would issue a G.O in this regard within a week and would start implementing it with immediate effect.

KCR also dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement Telangana’s decision of increasing reservation to the tribals at the national level if the latter has love and affection towards the tribal community.

The Chief Minister reminded that the Telangana Assembly had passed a resolution, urging the Centre to increase the reservations from 6 to 10 percent to the tribals. But, even after seven years passed, the Centre has not taken any decision in this regard and put it in cold storage.

“I am asking both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amith Shah as to why you are not showing an interest in increasing the reservations to the tribals. What are the problems and who is obstructing the reservations? Now, If you give a nod for increasing the reservations to tribals, President Droupadi Murmu will give her consent immediately as she belongs to the tribal community,” KCR said.

“Nowhere in the constitution does reservations exceed 50 percent. But 69 percent of reservations are being implemented in Tamil Nadu. Why the same kind of facility is not being given to Telangana? We are asking for the right due to us,” KCR questioned.

The Chief Minister said the Telangana Adivasi-Banjarala Atmiya Sabha is passing a unanimous resolution, requesting the Centre to pass the bill with the seal of President Droupadi Murmu.

The Chief Minister also announced that the State government would launch a Tribal Bandu program by giving Rs.10 lakhs to tribals on par with the Dalit Bandhu scheme. The Tribal Bandu program would be launched after the mobilization of funds, KCR said.

” Our aim is to create wealth and distribute it to the poor people,” he added. (NSS)
