My campaign and victory in Munugode will be historic: Shravanti

Hyderabad, October 29: Congress leader and candidate for Munugode by-elections Palvai Shravanti on Saturday expressed confidence that she would register a historic victory in the by-elections and it would be remembered forever.

“My campaign has already become historic. People are witnessing how two political giants Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao have deployed a huge army of campaigners and invested all their resources to defeat an ordinary woman like me. While I’m seeking votes on the promise of serving the people with honesty, BJP and TRS are trying to lure voters with huge cash, liquor and other sops. They are misusing official machinery, intimidating Congress cadres and resorting to all unethical means to win the elections. But I’m meeting the voters with empty, but folded hands, with a request to elect me as their representative and servant. These moments are historic and this battle will be remembered forever,” Shravanti said while addressing a series of corner meetings in the Munugode constituency.

Shravanti said that the response to her campaign, especially from the women and youth, was tremendous. “Munugode voters have known me since I was a child. I used to campaign along with my father late Palvai Govardhan Reddy who represented this constituency as MLA several times. I was extremely happy when the Congress party nominated me as a candidate for by-elections. I was badly missing my father when I started the campaign. I was a bit terrified when TRS and BJP started using all tactics like luring voters with huge cash and liquor. But the people of Munugode gave me so much support and love that I never felt like an orphan and every family treated me like its daughter. Therefore, the Munugode by-election is a fight between the ‘Daughter of Munugode’ versus the BJP-TRS combine,” he said.

The Congress candidate, in her speech, said that CM KCR had promised to turn the State into ‘Bangaru Telangana’. However, by boosting the sale of liquor, he transformed it into ‘Daaru Telangana’. She said the liquor consumption in Telangana, especially among youth, increased manifold and it has ruined thousands of families. She said no efforts were made to control the drug mafia which has spread its tentacles in every lane and by-lane of Telangana. TRS Govt did nothing to provide jobs to Telangana youth. But it has turned thousands of youth into liquor and drug addicts. This will change if the Congress party wins the Munugode by-elections, she said.

Shravanti said her victory would bring a lot of changes in Telangana politics. “If I win, it will be proved that women are not weak and they can fight and beat political giants when given an opportunity. Further, the arrogance of TRS and BJP will be shattered which will force their governments to fulfill the promises they made to the people. My victory will improve the quality of politics which now surrounds money and muscle power,” she said.

The Congress candidate appealed to the voters to stay cautious with the tactics of TRS and BJP as they would try to lure them with many offers in the last leg of the campaign. Shravanti expressed confidence that she would win the by-elections with a huge majority.
