A New Award, “Shri Jaipal Award for Democracy’ instituted
Hyderabad, November5: A New Award, “The Shri Jaipal Award for Democracy’ was instituted by Capital Foundation Society. This award will be an annual feature beginning next year. The award was instituted in honour of the late Shri S. Jaipal Reddy, former Union Minister and the strongest proponent of democratic values.
An announcement to this effect was made at the Capital Foundation Awards function by its secretary Dr Vinod Sethi in Delhi on Saturday on the occasion of 109 BIRTH ANNIVERSARY of Justice Krishna Iyer.
Dr Jusice D Y Chandrachud, Chief Justice of India was the Chief Guest, who delivered a keynote address on REVISITING PENAL PHILOSOPHY; REFORMATION JUSTICE IN INDIA
Capital Foundation Society was founded by Late VR Krishna Iyer 30 years ago. Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer was a judge and Minister who reformed the Indian criminal justice system. He stood up for the poor and the underprivileged, and remained a human rights champion, a crusader for social justice and the environment, and a doyen of civil liberties, throughout his life.
Justice AK Patnaik is the Chairman of the Society.
The Capital Foundation Society is a non-governmental body which brings together persons of thought and learning to deliberate and articulate public opinions on vital issues. It promotes the free flow of information and ideas from diverse sources to influence decision-making.
