Hyderabad, June 30, 2025 (Maxim News): All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has confirmed that his party is in discussions with leaders of the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) in Bihar ahead of the crucial Assembly elections scheduled later this year. The aim, he said, is to unite and defeat the ruling BJP-NDA alliance in the state.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Owaisi stated that AIMIM Bihar unit president Akhtarul Imam is leading the groundwork and strategy to dethrone the NDA government. He added that talks are underway with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress for a possible pre-poll alliance.
“We are committed to defeating the BJP and NDA. Talks with Grand Alliance partners are ongoing, and we are optimistic,” said Owaisi. “But if the alliance doesn’t work out, AIMIM will contest all constituencies in Bihar, particularly in Seemanchal, where we have strong grassroots support.”
Seemanchal: The Key Battleground
Owaisi highlighted Seemanchal, a Muslim-dominated region in Bihar, as the party’s stronghold with a significant presence of active cadres. AIMIM has performed well in the region in past elections, and Owaisi intends to leverage this support base to boost the alliance’s performance.
Concerns Over Voter List Revision
The AIMIM chief also voiced serious concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of voter lists in Bihar. He alleged that thousands of poor and flood-affected families in Seemanchal are being unfairly excluded due to bureaucratic hurdles in obtaining documents like birth certificates, residence proofs, and parental records.
“How can people who have lost everything in floods produce such documents? This is a deliberate move that could disenfranchise thousands of poor voters,” Owaisi said.
He urged the Election Commission of India to intervene and ensure fair inclusion of marginalized communities in the electoral rolls.
AIMIM’s Role in National Politics
Asaduddin Owaisi’s push for a broader alliance in Bihar signals the AIMIM’s growing ambition to influence electoral outcomes beyond its traditional bastions. The party has also made inroads in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, and sees Bihar as a crucial state in expanding its footprint.
He recalled his earlier efforts five years ago to unite anti-BJP forces in Bihar and emphasized that ideological unity among secular parties is critical for stopping the BJP’s rise in the Hindi heartland.
