Andhra Pradesh Vehicle Registration Within 24 Hours

Andhra Pradesh vehicle registration | Amravati, May 8: The Andhra Pradesh government is set to introduce a new system to complete permanent vehicle registrations within 24 hours.

The reform aims to end delays in the registration process and clear thousands of pending applications across the state.

At present, vehicle dealers issue temporary registrations after a vehicle sale. Later, Transport Department officials verify applications and approve permanent registrations. However, the absence of a fixed deadline has led to major delays. At present, nearly 27,000 vehicle registrations remain pending with Transport Department offices across Andhra Pradesh.

The issue recently came up during a review meeting with N. Chandrababu Naidu. The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure faster services and remove unnecessary delays in the registration process.

Under the proposed policy, Transport Department officials must complete scrutiny of online applications within 24 hours after dealers submit temporary registration details. The permanent registration and vehicle number generation process must also finish within the same time limit.

However, the 24 hour rule will not apply to vehicles seeking fancy registration numbers. Those applications will continue under the existing special number allocation process.

If officials fail to clear an application within the deadline, the system will automatically approve the registration after 24 hours. The government expects this automatic approval mechanism to improve accountability and reduce pending cases.

Andhra Pradesh vehicle registration reform targets faster approvals

Transport Department sources said officials can approve applications online even during public holidays. Therefore, the system can function without interruption throughout the week.

Initially, the Chief Minister suggested handing over permanent registration powers to vehicle dealers along with temporary registration authority. However, Transport Department officials informed the government that such a move could create legal complications. Officials advised that permanent registration powers should remain with the department to avoid future disputes and administrative issues.

Following those discussions, the government decided to retain registration authority with the Transport Department while making the approval process time bound.

Transport Department officials have already sent the proposal file to the state government for approval. The government is likely to clear the proposal later this week. Once approval comes, the new system will take immediate effect across Andhra Pradesh.

Officials believe the reform will reduce waiting time for vehicle owners, improve transparency, and speed up digital governance services in the transport sector.
