AP secures first position in production of fish in India

Andhra, August 14: The Andhra Pradesh secured India’s first position in production of fish. Every year, 42 lakh tonnes of fish is exported to several states particularly to north-eastern states from AP. However, the state is far behind in consumption of fish. The per capita consumption of fish in AP is only 8 kg per annum.

In order to increase fish consumption, the Department of Fisheries is setting up 100 aqua hubs across the state. Beneficiaries willing to set up hubs will be provided financial support from the Bank of Baroda, said Fisheries Commissioner K Kanna Babu.
