Army Vehicle Falls Into Valley, 3 Jawans Dead, 15 Injured

Jammu and Kashmir/Hyderabad, Aug 7 (Maxim News): A serious accident occurred in Jammu and Kashmir.  On Thursday (August 7), a vehicle carrying army personnel fell into a gorge.  Three jawans were killed in the accident.  15 others were seriously injured.  The accident took place in the Kandwa area near Basantgarh in Udhampur district.

The accident took place at 10.30 am on Thursday. The bunker vehicle carrying CRPF Jawans from the 187th Battalion lost control and fell into a deep ravine.

The accident took place when Army jawans of the 187th Battalion were returning from an operation in Basantgarh. A total of 23 jawans were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Three of them died on the spot. Another 15 were injured.  Some of them are reported to be in critical condition.

As soon as the information was received, local police, security personnel and locals reached the spot and started rescue operations. The injured jawans were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh expressed grief over the incident, he spoke to Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai and reviewed the rescue operations, He ordered that all possible assistance be provided to the injured.

The accident took place in a hilly area of Udhampur district, where roadways are often prone to accidents.  Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident.  (Maxim News)
