JPC to Review Legal and Constitutional Implications

The JPC will scrutinize the legal and constitutional aspects of the proposed legislation, which aims to enhance accountability among elected representatives facing serious criminal charges. The committee includes members from various political parties to ensure a balanced and detailed examination of the Bills before they are tabled for debate in Parliament.

According to parliamentary sources, the Bills seek to create uniform standards for holding public office, ensuring that individuals facing serious charges cannot continue in executive positions while under judicial custody. The committee will review potential overlaps with existing laws, including provisions under the Representation of the People Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
