Ashok Gajapathi Raju Appointed as Governor of Goa

Delhi/Hyderabad, July 14 (Maxim News): In a significant reshuffle of gubernatorial positions, President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju as the new Governor of Goa. The official announcement was made on Monday, alongside two other key appointments.

According to a press release from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh has been named the Governor of Haryana, while Kavinder Gupta, a senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.

Ashok Gajapathi Raju’s Political Background

Ashok Gajapathi Raju is a veteran politician from Andhra Pradesh with decades of experience in public service. A senior leader from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), he has previously held key portfolios, including Union Civil Aviation Minister in the Narendra Modi government from 2014 to 2018.

Known for his dignified and issue-based politics, Gajapathi Raju also served multiple terms as an MLA and MP and is a well-respected figure in Andhra Pradesh’s political and royal circles, being part of the Vizianagaram royal family.

His appointment as the Governor of Goa is seen as a strategic move by the central government, considering his administrative experience and ability to maintain harmony in politically diverse environments.

Other Key Appointments

  • Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh, a respected academician and social thinker, has taken over as Governor of Haryana, replacing Bandaru Dattatreya.
  • Kavinder Gupta has been chosen as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, a region with increasing strategic significance. His administrative and political experience in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to aid in governance and development in the Union Territory.

All three appointees are expected to assume office shortly and begin their constitutional responsibilities as per protocol.
