Assembly Passes Municipal Bill-2019, CM Slams Congress For Its Anti-Development Role

Hyderabad, July 19 (Maxim News): The Telangana State Assembly on Friday passed the Municipal Bill-2019 after a debate by members on the second day of the House. Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy adjourned the House sine die after passing the Bill, which will ensure development and check corruption. The bill also empowers District Collectors to ensure systematic development of works taken up on priority basis and to check irregularities.

Soon after the House started the proceedings at 10 am on today, Leader of the House K Chandrashekhar Rao, who tabled the Municipal Bill on Thursday, explained about the salient features of the Bill and the was approved by the members after a thorough debate on the Bill. The Chief Minister thanked the members for their suggestions and said the new Municipal Act aims to propel development and check irregularities in the civic bodies. He also said the Municipal Bill empowers the District Collectors in this regard.

Responding to the suggestions of CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarkha on hike in reservations for SCs and STs, the Chief Minister said the quota would be finalized in proportionate to their population. He also said if the beneficial changes were not made in the laws at appropriate times, the future generations will be grossly affected. Stating that the Congress party was opposing clothing District Collectors with powers, the Chief Minister said it was not proper for the Congress to talk  the manner of insulting them as the Collectors would only make suggestions for the benefit of the people.

Expressing concern over the hostile attitude of the Congress leader, the Chief Minister said, “I never understand the intentions and aims of the Congress. They always oppose the welfare and developmental programs of the government for opposition sake. Do they want everything unchanged now like in their decades old regime? Their routine hostile attitude to oppose empowering the District Collectors was totally wrong. In fact, the Collectors were having the same powers since the beginning. It is not a new proposal. What is wrong in withdrawing powers of ministers to stay disciplinary action against erring sarpanches?, he asked.

The Chief Minister also expressed his disgust over the Congress blindly opposing everything proposed by the State government. Do they want rampant corruption in the government offices continue for ever?, he asked. He also said the Congress cannot command him or the ruling party. He also said the TRS Government will continue for the next four-and-a-half years and see that civic bodies develop in coordination with Collectors and legislators. The State government continued the Arogyasri health scheme of late YSR regime as it was good, but the Congress was trying to corner the ruling party on everything, he charged. (Maxim News)
