Kolkata/Hyderabad, May 1 (Maxim News) The Election Commission has responded to the high drama that erupted after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was blocked by BJP workers when she went to the strong room in South Kolkata to review the situation in Bhawanipur. It has rejected the allegations made by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) that EVMs were tampered with.
The counting centre of the Bhavanipur assembly constituency, where Mamata Banerjee contested, is located at Sakhawat Memorial School. TMC workers have alleged that the BJP tried to tamper with the EVMs there. However, North Kolkata District Election Officer (DEO) Smita Pandey has rejected the TMC allegation. She said that there is a legal process to segregate postal ballots. She said that officers and staff cannot vote directly if they are on election duty, so they will exercise their right to vote at the facilitation centre. She said that this process will also take place in a completely secured and secure environment. ‘Our people are sitting in the corridor. The EVM strong room is sealed,’ she said. She explained that EVMs and postal ballots will be managed in accordance with the Election Commission guidelines, the EVM room will be separate and the postal ballots room will be separate, and they will remove them and segregate them.
Mamata Banerjee was at the counting centre for about four hours on Thursday night in the wake of allegations of EVM tampering. She said that transparency and installation of CCTV cameras are essential for conducting a fair election process. She warned that any act of tampering with EVMs will not be tolerated. She said that she came here to check the votes of the people and that she had received several complaints, but the central forces initially did not allow her inside. (Maxim News)
