Hyderabad, June 26: The historic Bibi-ka-Alam Muharram procession commenced on Friday afternoon from Bibi Ka Alawa in Hyderabad’s Old City, as the revered Bibi ka Alam was ceremoniously carried on the decorated elephant Sreedevi, marking the start of one of India’s oldest Muharram processions.
Thousands of mourners from Hyderabad and neighbouring districts joined the annual procession to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala. Devotees participated in traditional mourning rituals, recited elegies and observed commemorative practices in remembrance of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions.

The Bibi ka Alam procession is a centuries old tradition and remains one of Hyderabad’s most significant religious observances during Muharram. The ceremonial procession featuring the sacred Alam mounted on elephant Sreedevi continues to be among the most recognised symbols of Muharram commemorations in the city.

Large crowds gathered along the procession route to witness the annual event and offer respects during the observance.
The Hyderabad City Police made extensive security arrangements across the Old City. Authorities deployed additional personnel and implemented traffic diversions and crowd management measures to ensure smooth movement and maintain public safety.
The procession is scheduled to move through several localities before concluding later in the day, with devotees expected to continue participating in the annual commemoration of the martyrs of Karbala.
