The ECI has issued notices to lakhs of voters in the state after discrepancies were found in the documents submitted for corrections. A total of three lakh people have received such notices. The ECI has given them seven days to explain why there are discrepancies in their documents.

‘Three lakh people had registered their names in the draft voters list as per the SIR. However, discrepancies were found in the verification of their documents. Due to this, field checks were carried out. As a result, there were suspicions that they may have come from Bangladesh, Myanmar or Nepal,’ an official told the media.

The EC has sent notices to voters seeking clarifications, most of whom are from East Champaran, West Champaran, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar and Araria-Supaul districts.

Reacting to the ECI issuing notices to a large number of voters, the BJP has alleged that the region is a hub for illegal migration of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas. Meanwhile, various political parties have raised objections to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. (Maxim News)
