Kolkataz/Hyderabad, Sept 15 (Maxim News): Minister of State (MoS) and former State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Sukanta Majumdar on Tuesday expressed confidence that the BJP will win both the Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly seats in the October 6 bypolls in West Bengal.

This comes as the BJP on Tuesday announced Hasirani Rath and Sakharav Sarkar as its candidates from Nandigram and Rejinagar, respectively.

Hasirani Rath is the mother of Chandranath Rath, a former personal assistant to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Sakharav Sarkar is a former BJP President of Murshidabad district and a member of the party’s state committee.

Speaking Majumdar said, “Both BJP candidates will win. Because the Left has fielded two candidates in Rejinagar. In the coming days, there will be candidates from the CPI-M and Congress, and the Trinamool Congress will also field one or two candidates. Altogether, whatever political mix emerges, you will find the fragrance of the BJP in it.”

Reacting to the Bengal CID investigation at the residence of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, MoS Majumdar said he could not predict the poll outcome but asserted that the investigation would proceed based on the information provided by the accused.

“I cannot forecast what will happen next because I am not an astrologer. But I can say that, as we have learned through the media, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee’s personal assistant Sumit Roy has informed the West Bengal Police or CID about who asked him to carry out what work,” he added.

“Naturally, based on whatever he (Sumit Roy) says, the West Bengal Police will go there and search for all the documents. That is the job of the police and part of the investigation. The investigation is underway. If Sumit Roy has said anything about Abhishek Banerjee and all those documents are found, then Abhishek Banerjee will also have to go to jail,” he said.

On the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Majumdar said it would be implemented in West Bengal and referred to recent remarks by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

“No, no, it will happen. The Home Minister (Amit Shah) has said it today, which means the order has been given. Our (BJP) government is working accordingly. The Chief Minister (Suvendu Adhikari) has already formed a committee, and the committee is speaking to everyone,” he added.

Majumdar said the UCC was necessary to ensure equal treatment for all citizens, irrespective of caste, creed or religion.

“UCC is necessary for everyone because the fundamental principle of the Constitution states that this country and its Constitution will not discriminate against any citizen based on caste, creed or religion. However, discrimination has continued to take place until now. Therefore, the sooner this discrimination is eliminated, the better,” he added. (Maxim News)
