Body Of Man Washed Away In Saroornagar Lake Recovered
Hyderabad: After search operations that spanned nearly 15 hours, the body of Naveen Kumar, who was washed away into the Saroornagar Lake on Sunday evening was recovered around 3 pm on Monday.
Officials had formed seven special teams including from the National Disaster Response Force and Disaster Response Team of the GHMC and the Saroornagar police to launch a rescue operation immediately after Naveen Kumar was washed away in the stream leading into the lake around 7 pm on Sunday.
“We were searching with boats in the stream since last night and recovered his body in the water about 100 metres away from the spot where he went missing. The stream is a bit shallow and the water was muddy, which delayed the efforts,” police said.
Rachakonda Police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat personally supervised the search operations at the lake. Bhagwat later appreciated the NDRF 9th Battalion and the Shaikpet team led by Inspector Yogesh Varma for their efforts in tracing the body against all odds.
Naveen Kumar (45), an electrician from Almasguda, was on his way from Tapovan Colony towards Saroornagar when his scooter broke down. He is said to have been pushing the bike when he got washed away in the stream of the canal that was recently built near the Saroornagar Lake. Though locals saw him and tried to rescue him, the heavy rains and surging waters flowing into the lake defeated their efforts.
