Book reading good for knowledge, society: Kamalakar

Hyderabad, March.2 (Maxim News): BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar today stressed the need for book reading for knowledge and good society. Stating that reading is a key for development of the society, he said book exhibitions and stalls should be encouraged to inculcate reading habit among youths and students.

The minister inaugurated a Book Fair at Jyothiba Phule Park in Karimnagar town. The expo was started to mark International Women’s Day and it has 50 stalls exhibiting as many as 20,000 books. State Sahitya Academy Chairman Gauri Shankar, Principal Secretary B Venkatesham, Collector Karnan and others were present.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister exhorted women, girls and students to focus on reading. He expressed happiness that the book fair was started at his Karimnagar district. He said reading helps people reach new heights, achieve goals and create a healthy society with values. Kamalakar expressed his concern at increased use of mobile phones and dip in reading books among students, youth and people. He said that TRS supremo and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is known as a book lover. Having read many books, KCR fought for the statehood. He asked the students, youth and people to focus on reading books for knowledge.

“We get much more knowledge through reading books, periodicals and newspapers”, the minister said, adding that efforts should be made to ensure that the students, youth and people spend time for acquiring knowledge through reading books, periodicals and newspapers. Kamalakar also said steps must be taken to equip libraries with latest books, old, new and variety of periodicals and newspapers. Book reading is a good habit as it will help us get more information and knowledge.

Venkatesham said girls should be encouraged to study higher education. It will help build a good and healthy society with values. Gauri Shankar said the book expo for seven days will help local people to buy books and increase knowledge. (Maxim News)
