Nagpur/Hyderabad, June 19 (Maxim News): Russia is reportedly considering buying the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. Russia is looking to induct the state-of-the-art missile system into its armed forces. Russia is showing interest in the BrahMos missile, said BrahMos Aerospace Chief Executive Officer Jaithirtha Joshi. He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the production of the 100th indigenous booster at Solar Industries India Limited in Nagpur. Joshi said that despite Russia’s participation in the BrahMos program, the country is interested in inducting the missile into its military.
He said that the Russian government is interested in the BrahMos issue. Joshi said that discussions are underway with that country on this issue and that Russia is seeking BrahMos keeping in mind its future needs. Responding to a question asked whether India will send missiles required by Russia in the future, he said that Indian industries will provide a boost to Russian manufacturing companies. Joshi said that Russia has facilities, but they may not be sufficient, and that a detailed study will be conducted with Russia on this issue and the necessary missiles will be sent.
India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya are jointly developing the BrahMos missile. BrahMos has now become a key export item in India’s defense sector. Joshi said that the BrahMos missile has gained a good reputation worldwide and that BrahMos is the result of about 25 years of development, testing and operational development. He said that BrahMos was used effectively during Operation Sindhur. He said that we conducted a live test during Operation Sindhur and the whole world saw that success story.
Vietnam is also interested in buying BrahMos missiles. However, the final stage of the deal is yet to be cleared, Joshi said. He said some countries in the East and West are also interested in buying BrahMos.(Maxim News)
