Delhi/Hyderabad: The two-day 18th BRICS Summit concluded in Delhi on Sunday, with heads of state and government beginning their return journeys to their respective countries after the India chaired summit.
Russian President Vladimir Putin departed Delhi for Russia on Sunday following his participation in the summit. During his visit, Putin attended several sessions and toured the ‘Bharat Innovates’ exhibition at the Bharat Pavilion.
Putin Slams Western Sanctions, Holds Talks With Modi
Addressing the BRICS Business Forum leaders’ meeting, Putin criticised Western sanctions against Russia. He said more than 30,000 sanctions had been imposed on Russia and alleged that Western countries were using diplomatic and commercial pressure to create unfair competition.
On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Putin. The two leaders discussed the implementation of the Programme for Economic Cooperation 2030 and cooperation in defence, energy, infrastructure, technology and culture.
Modi and Putin also exchanged views on the ongoing tensions in West Asia and the Black Sea region, including issues affecting maritime trade and the safety of Indian sailors.
Modi reiterated that diplomacy and sustained dialogue are the only way to resolve disputes, and said India remains ready to contribute to peace efforts.
Following the conclusion of the summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali also departed Delhi for their respective countries. (Maxim News)
